Veggie Wines
Does anyone know any good veggie-friendly wines (without isinglass or gelatine). I've mostly been sticking to supermarket wines as they always tell you on the bottle if they're vegetarian, but a friend told me recently that about 50% of wines are vegetarian, it's just difficult to tell which. I like the Chat en Oeuf ones from Waitrose.

Hi Kitty
Yes, unfortunately some wines are clarified using non-vegetarian ingredients, such as isinglass (from fish) or gelatine (usually bovine), and unfortunately it's a bit of a minefield as labelling is reasonably scarce.
Rhys, have you tried looking for wines online? Both Vinceremos and Vintage Roots do a great selection of veggie wines, including vegan ones, and make it very easy to see what you're buying. Our most recent favourites are Rioja Usoa de Bagordi (£7.49, Vinceremos) and Adobe Gewurztraminer (£7.75, Vintage Roots).Last edited by Rachel; 03-16-2012 at 02:36 PM.

Oh yes - they absolutely do and some of their wines are extremely delicious! Sometimes I like to order wine from serenata wines - they have a huge variety on veggie wines and also have my most favorite wine. Australian red dry Shiraz. Simply the best.

I just took a look at Serenata and I couldn't work out which the veggie ones were, am I being really dim?

Agree with Rachel but would add egg whites as another fining agent; there are a couple of others but not used as much as gelatin and isinglass. For a fuller description have a look at a list of additives allowed in wine.
