Best places for a veggie to holiday???

Hi. Trying to book a honeymoon but don't want to go hungry. Last time I went to Spain it was a nightmare. They kept giving me meals with fish in, or protesting that because the meal "only had a little bit of meat" it was vegetarian! I just want to stuff my face, frankly Any suggestions. Budget kinda limits me to short haul....

Italy is surprisingly good for veggies, and I've seen a few dedicated vegetarian hotels. It also has a very active vegetarian society, so they might be able to help you with a list of places. I read somewhere that it's the most vegetarian country in the EU (beating the UK by quite a bit). Plus it's a very romantic place to honeymoon, and the food is amazing.

I am unfortunately limited to UK for holidays (health reasons) but I have to say that when we go to a restaurant I love going to an indian restaurant, mainly because I love indian food anyway, but also because I love having so much choice!!!! Vegetarian indian restaurants even more so because they have more unusual vegetarian dishes

Greece is fab for veggies. Loads of veggie starters which you can eat as a meze, great salads, plus plenty of vegetable-based main courses such as stuffed peppers, briam (veggie stew), veggie mousakka etc. Stick to one of the more popular islands (Crete, Corfu, Rhodes, Kos etc) for more choice.

Both Brightin and York have high profile vegetarian restaurants (and Brighton has a veg pub I believe). Both are great places to visit, too. Good luck!

I always find anywhere in Greece to be really good! I agree, Spain is bad. I was constantly trying to shout "sin carne" at the waiters!

India is the best country for veggie food. In the Uk Brighton is probably the best followed by the Lake District in Cumbria which has lots of veggie restaurants. No chance of going hungry there.

I agree about Spain - they seem to add meat to the oddest dishes, too! I also found that when I visited Paris with my partner a few years back, they were not at all accommodating. About 80% of the restaurants could only offer me goat's cheese salad (which I realise is def not okay for stricter vegetarians) or French onion soup, which is made with veal stock. One place really upset me when we realised that there was nothing on the menu I could eat and I asked whether they could just make me a plain omelette. They refused and told us to leave! This might have just been because my partner and I were young and pretty broke at the time, so we couldn't afford to be choosy with our eating establishments! Imagine my joy when I discovered a cheap Lebanese takeaway not far from our hotel!

As far as Europe goes, I found Italy and Greece are pretty good at having veggie options - Italy especially, if you don't mind eating pasta and pizza for two weeks! I was also surprised at how well I ate in Croatia when I went there last summer. Again, lots of salads, pastas and pizza, but it was all delicious. There was a LOT of seafood though.
