Agree with soup, its really quick, filling and good for catering for a family that wants/needs to eat at different times

I would say the best tip would be to make big meals and freeze some, e.g. a pan of chilli will not take too long to make, is cheap and freezes well. Just take out of the freezer the night before and then warm in a pan

Whatever I make I generally make extra and have it the next night too to save cooking 2 days on the run. I alter it slightly so one night I may have pasta bolognese, the next night I will have it cold. I may have chilli and rice, then chilli and potato wedges etc

If you are home but busy then a good option is baked potato, just throw a potato (not literally!) into the oven and 90min - 2 hours later enjoy with whatever filling takes your fancy. If you have a spare 2 minutes you can add a quick salad to make it even healthier! This will fill you up, takes 2 minutes to do and costs pennies!!!
